Six people die after car hits tree in eastern Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ Six people died after a car struck a tree in Lincoln early Sunday.

Lincoln Police said the crash near 56th and Randolph streets was reported around 2:15 a.m. Sunday after an iPhone carried by one of the passengers detected the impact and called emergency responders automatically when the owner of the phone didn’t respond.

Five men in the car died at the scene. Paramedics took a 24-year-old woman to the hospital in critical condition where she died later. The five men who died included the 22-year-old driver. The other victims included one 21-year-old, one 23-year-old and two 22-year-olds.

Police did not immediately release the names of the victims Sunday morning.
