PHOTOS: At least 23 confirmed tornadoes, 2 funnel clouds wreak havoc over Nebraska as of 4 pm Friday afternoon

As of Friday afternoon at 4:00 pm, trained spotters with the National Weather Service confirmed at least 23 tornadoes and reported spottings of at least two funnel clouds. Storm cells are still popping up as this is a developing story.

Butler and Lancaster counties recorded at least four and five tornadoes respectively. Damage has not been officially assessed, but reports have included damaged/destroyed roofs, powerlines, commercial buildings and more.

The Lancaster Emergency Manager reported a tornado touched down 4 miles southwest of Waverly causing a train derailment along Highway 6 and another trail derailment in the Highway 6 and I-80 area. Also a semi rolled over.

At least two vehicles were reported rolled over on Highway 15 in Butler County.

  • 4 miles SE of Garrison
  • 3 miles S/SW of Brainard
  • 4 miles W/NW of Brainard
  • Funnel cloud 3 miles SW of Brainard

Lancaster County Confirmed Tornadoes

  • 5 miles N/NE of Lincoln
  • 4 miles SW of Waverly
  • 2 miles W/NW of Waverly
  • 1 mile NW of Waverly
  • 4 miles N/NW of Greenwood
  • Funnel cloud spotted over Downtown Lincoln

Other confirmed tornadoes were in Ravenna, Rockville, Farwell, St. Edward, Newman Grove, Lindsay, Waterloo, Bennington, (3) Yutan, and (3) Elkhorn.
