Lexington soccer splits at home vs Hastings

Lexington- The Lexington girls and boys soccer teams hosted Hastings in their home openers on Thursday night. In the girls match, Hastings beat the Minutemaids 1-0. Nayely Guzman scored the only goal of the day in the 14th minute for the Tigers. With the win the Tigers are 1-2 on the season while the Minutemaids dropped to 1-2.

In the boys game, Lexington received a serious test from the Tigers before pulling it out 2-1. Hastings had multiple chances to score early but couldn’t get it done as it was the Minutemen who jumped out early 1-0 as Mario Maravilla scored off an assist from Fernando Casillas in the 14th minute to give Lexington the lead. In the second half, the match became physical as numerous yellow cards and two reds were given to the teams.

After a red card was given to Lexington, Hastings tied the game on a penalty kick at 57th minute when Jose Mares scored for the Tigers. Lexington would respond however when Willander Hernandez scored off a pass from Alex Perez in the 64 minute as Lexington held on for the win. The Minutemen have now won 12 in a row against the Tigers and are 2-3 on the season. Hastings fell to 2-1. Lexington has another big game on Saturday at South Sioux City.
