Holdrege, Neb. – After securing their first winning record since 2014 last year, this year’s Duster volleyball team is ready to go another step forward. Head coach Ryan Birner is entering his fourth season in Holdrege and knows that step forward still requires plenty of hard work. The 2024 Dusters are looking to replace two of their starters from last season in Avery Hurlbert and Kenna Fulmer. While that may not sound like a lot, those two were a big part of the first 20-win season Holdrege has had in years.

Coach Ryan Birner talks with KUVR’s Jon Schilling about the 2024 Duster volleyball season.

This year they Dusters will lean on Keeley Vaughn, their very experienced and record-breaking setter. A strong set of middle and outside hitters will also help Holdrege. Coach Birner has a wealth of depth and experience on the roster in 2024. Senior Pyper Wells was second on the team last year in kills, and Junior Carson Sundquist finished third. Both will be returning to make things miserable for their opponents at the net. With Juniors Addy and Emily Stutzman and Averi Bilka joining efforts with senior Jenna Samuelson, Holdrege looks to make some noise in the always difficult Southwest Conference.

The Dusters open their season on the road Thursday, August 29. They’ll play Centura at 6 pm.
