Hastings, Neb. – The Highway 6 Trailblazers welcomed Hershey and Grand Island Central Catholic to the Bill Smith Softball Complex on Tuesday. The Trailblazers split the evening with a 12-0 win over Hershey before falling 11-5 to the Crusaders.
Highway 6 took down the Panthers after jumping out to a 6-0 first-inning lead. Starting pitcher Addison Klabunde kept the pressure on allowing just three hits in the three-inning game. She struck out six including the first two Hershey batters to help the Trailblazers take the first game of the triangular.
Grand Island Central Catholic proved to be a tough opponent for the Trailblazers, however. The Crusaders opened took an early lead after the first two innings. With the 6-1 deficit, Highway 6 could not get their composure committing seven errors in the game.
GICC added another five runs in the fourth and fifth innings before the Blazer bats came alive. Highway 6 made things a little interesting in the bottom half of the inning scoring four runs on four hits before a pop out to center field ended the comeback attempt.
Highway 6 is now 8-6 on the season and will travel to York on Thursday. First pitch against the 7-5 Dukes is at 6:30 pm.
