Duster girls’ soccer continues push forward in 2024
March 18th, 2024 | Jon Schilling

Holdrege, Neb. – For the third year, head coach Derek Runcie will look to the 2024 Duster girls’ soccer season as a chance for growth. The roster is continuing to add players of both newcomers and seasoned veterans. After winning only one game in each of Runcie’s past two years at the helm, he knows the benchmark for improvement is not far away.

With the new season come new challenges, and Runcie has a clear plan to help facilitate the growth he’s hoping to see. The focus in practice has been working on skills and fundamentals, but there’s more work to do than merely honing the players’ ball skills. The Dusters will also do everything they can simulate game situations despite not having enough girls to run a full scrimmage.

Even though the challenges are there, Holdrege will look to soak up every lesson and teaching moment throughout the 2024 season. Soccer is a tough sport to master, but the Dusters are here for the challenge.

Coach Runcie talks with KUVR’s Jon Schilling and offers his thoughts on the upcoming year.

On Thursday, March 14, the Dusters opened up their season with a 5-0 loss at home against Columbus Lakeview. They will head east to face Columbus Scotus on Tuesday, March 19, at 4 pm.
