Kyle Layman grew up around livestock on an farm and ranch. As a young boy, he attended area livestock sales and started picking up on auctioneering skills.

When he was 16,he moved to North Platte, Nebraska where he later worked on a ranch in the community. When the Iraq War began, Kyle made the decision to enlist, serving a seven-year stint as a precision weapons technician in the Marine Corps.

After serving his country, Kyle went to school and became a licensed auctioneer. He began as a journeyman auctioneer, traveling to area sale barns helping with auctioneering on sale days to network with buyers and create relationships.

Kyle purchased the former North Platte Livestock Auction in the fall of 2018 and renamed it the North Platte Stockyards, LLC.

The North Platte Livestock Auction dates back to the 1950’s and has had multiple owners. Kyle’s goal in 2019, includes growing the facility to hold 4,000 to 5,000 head on sale day. He has been traveling around the county, meeting people and building trust in his new sale barn. Since the facility is in good condition, he plans to rebuild back pens in this summer’s slower months.

Kyle has competed in many auctioneer events. He was the Nebraska State Auctioneer Champion in 2015, the Kansas Livestock Auctioneer Champion in 2016, and the winner of the Greater Midwest Livestock Auctioneer contest in 2017. He has also finished in the top 10 at the World Livestock Auctioneer Championship, and was the reserve champion at the International Livestock Auctioneer Championships in Calgary, Alberta, Canada in June of 2018.
