Wayne State sweeps Minnesota Crookston

Sophomore outside hitter Kelsie Cada produced a match-high 13 kills to lead #8 Wayne State College in a 25-16, 25-12, 25-14 Northern Sun Conference volleyball sweep over Minnesota Crookston Friday evening at Rice Auditorium in Wayne. The Wildcats improve to 9-2 and 3-1 in the NSIC with the win while the Golden Eagles drop to 1-8 and 0-4 in league play.

The Wildcat forced eight attack errors on the Golden Eagles in the first set and used six kills by Cada to take the opening set 25-16.

The second set saw the Wildcat click on all cylinders with 15 kills and just one error on 28 attacks while holding UMC to just five kills in a 25-12 set win. Taya Beller’s six kills on six attacks paced the ‘Cats in the set while Jordan McCormick had two service aces.

In the third set, WSC forced nine Golden Eagle attack errors that included four blocks to go with three service aces as the Wildcats completed the sweep with a 25-14 set win.

Wayne State finished the match with a .306 attack percentage, recording 32 kills on 72 attacks with just 10 errors. UMC was held to a .048 hitting percentage on 25 kills and 21 errors with 84 attacks. The ‘Cats held a 37-29 edge in digs, 8-2 in service aces and 8-3 in blocks.

Cada’s 13 kills led the Wildcats followed by Beller with eight on just 10 attacks and one error for a .700 hitting percentage. Rachel Walker and Alaina Wolff each had eight digs while Beller led WSC with four blocks.

Wolff, McCormick and Walker each had two service aces while Walker was credited with 24 set assists.

Wayne State is at home again Saturday afternoon hosting Bemidji State at 1 p.m. in Rice Auditorium.
