Trio of former Area Athletes compete for WSC Track at South Dakota Tune-up Meet

Wayne, Neb. — Sophomore thrower Daylin Mallory had a pair of second-place finishes and hit an NCAA provisional mark in the shot put to lead the Wayne State men’s track and field team at the South Dakota Tune-up Meet held Friday afternoon and evening at the Lillibridge Track Complex in Vermillion.

Mallory’s NCAA provisional mark in the shot put was 54’ 9 ¼”, good for second place in the event.  The mark is also the third-best in the NSIC this season.  The Norfolk High graduate also finished second in the discus at 165’ 5”.

J’Dyn Bullion recorded a third-place mark in the discus at 158’ 5”.

Junior Daniel Elge had a sixth-place finish in the hammer throw (174’ 1”) and was seventh in the shot put (49’ 1 ¾” while Alex Altman had a seventh-place mark in the hammer throw at 168’ 9”.

In the jumps, senior Dylan Kneifl posted a second-place finish in the high jump clearing 6’ 8 ¾” while junior Logan Moeller had a third-place finish in the long jump with a top mark of 23’ 5 ½”.  Wayne senior Cody Rogers came in fifth place in the triple jump at 44’ ¾”.

Sophomore Keaton Wattier recorded a fourth-place finish in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 14.49 seconds, senior Gabe Peitz came in fifth in the 800-meter run at 1:55.18 and Austin Madsen had an eighth-place finish in the 400-meter dash in 51.08 seconds.

The Wildcat 4 x 100-meter relay team of Keaton Wattier, Austin Madsen, Wyatt Nissen and Mitchell Rudie crossed the line fourth in 42.68 seconds.

Wayne State will compete Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the 2024 Northern Sun Conference Track and Field Championships in Mankato, Minnesota.

Wayne, Neb. — The Wayne State College women’s track team had one first-place finish and several personal bests at the South Dakota Tune-up held Friday afternoon and evening in Vermillion at the Lillibridge Track Complex.

Wayne State had three of the top four finishers in the 5,000-meter run as Sydney Escritt crossed the line first in a time of 20:09.64 followed by Madelin Kunz in second at 20:54.73 and Maelee Beacom fourth at 21:13.01.

Sophomore Anna Coffee placed in three events – sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.00), seventh in the javelin throw (111’ 2”) and eighth in the high jump clearing 5’ ¼”.

Freshman Callie Kirchner took third in the 1,500-meter run with a personal-best time of 4:48.69. 

In field events, sophomore Olivia Schwarzrock was third in the shot put with a top throw of 41’ 11 ¼”, Hailey Baker was fourth in the hammer throw (173’ 4”) and Reilly Young took fourth in the discus (143’ 8”).

In the 800-meter run, Kylie Pachta finished fifth in 2:19.93 and Alison Stineman was next in sixth at 2:22.14. 

Maya Couch was fifth place in the 200-meter dash at 25.15 seconds and Keyla Sambo finished eighth in the triple jump with a top leap of 35’ 7 ¾”.

The 4 x 100-meter relay quartet of Emily Smollen, Maya Couch, Sarah Cotton and Lindsey Kneifl finished fourth with a time of 49.31 seconds. 

Wayne State will compete next on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the 2024 Northern Sun Conference Championships in Mankato, Minnesota.
