National honors roll in for BU’s Grant

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Bellevue University junior Logan Grant (Chestermere, Alberta) has been named the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Baseball Player of the Week following his standout performance last week.

Grant his safely in all five games last week to extend his hitting streak to 14 games. He reached base safely at least three times in four of five games as he batted .619 with an OPS of 2.394 which featured a slugging percentage of 1.714.

He hit six home runs and drove in 17 runs on the week. Ten of his 13 hits went for extra-bases.

He matched a program single-game record with three home runs and drove in nine runs in the series finale against Mayville State. It was the second three-home run game of Grant’s career.

On the season, Grant is batting .361 with an OPS of 1.166. He leads the team with 14 home runs and 54 RBI and ranks second with 11 doubles.

In addition to earning the NAIA accolade, Grant has also been recognized by a pair of outside bodies. The Canadian Baseball Network ($) selected Grant as the CBN College Player of the Week and NAIA Ball has chosen Grant as their National Player of the Week.

The Bruins host Dakota State University in a pivotal four-game series beginning on Friday, Apr. 19 at 1 p.m. from John Stella Field at Brown Park.

Bellevue (30-11/15-1 NSAA) is ranked No. 16 in the latest NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 and hold a one-game lead over the Trojans in the conference standings with eight games to play. Dakota State (38-6) and BU (40-4) have combined to go 78-10 in conference play over the last two seasons. The Bruins took three of four in the final weekend last year to win the regular season title and clinch the top seed in the conference tournament.
