AMES, Iowa  – No. 13 Iowa State (17-3, 6-2 Big 12) got back to its winning ways with a 77-62 win over Kansas (12-5, 3-4 Big 12) on Wednesday in Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones placed four in double figures en route to their sixth conference win of the season.

Ashley Joens led Iowa State with a game-high 21 points, netting 7-of-14 from the field. She added 11 boards for her 10th double-double of the season and 41st of her career. Aubrey Joens found her offensive rhythm again with her best game in conference action, tallying 16 points, and knocking down a team-high four triples.

Emily Ryan totaled 14 points and dished nine dimes, while Lexi Donarski rounded out the Cyclones in double figures with 14.

How It Happened

The Cyclones came out firing, starting the game a blistering 6-of-10 from long range, after struggling from deep in its last two games. The Joens sisters paced Iowa State from downtown, draining two apiece to help ISU jump out to a 24-12 lead at the end of the quarter.

In the second quarter, it was the Jayhawks who had the hot hand, starting off on an 8-2 run to quickly pull the game back within single digits, 26-20. Kansas would shoot 62.5 percent in the quarter, trailing ISU by seven, 40-33. Ryan led Iowa State with 12 points in the first half off 4-of-5 from deep, while Donarski tallied 10 points.

Iowa State’s defense shined in the third quarter, with the Cyclones holding the Jayhawks to 23.5 percent shooting. Iowa State closed down the third quarter on a 14-3 run to give itself a 19-point lead over Kansas (63-44) – its biggest of the night. Ashley Joens led ISU with 11 of the Cyclones 23 points in the third quarter.

With the game seemingly out of reach for the Jayhawks, KU rattled off five-straight points to start the fourth quarter, forcing an ISU timeout to regroup. Out of the timeout, Donarski and Ashley Joens netted back-to-back jumpers halting the KU run as Iowa State cruised to a 77-62 victory.
