CSM Softball drops Doubleheader to Midland on Senior Day
April 25th, 2024 | College of Saint Mary Athletics

OMAHA, Neb. — The College of Saint Mary softball team lost a pair of Great Plains Athletic Conference games to Midland University on Thursday in what was Senior Day for the Flames.

Midland improves to 39-6 on the year and 18-2 in the GPAC while CSM slides to 10-31 overall and 2-18 in league play.

“We couldn’t get any offense going tonight,” said coach Carolyn Todd Bray as the Flames were held without a run in the double-header. “Midland is good and there’s a reason they are sitting on top of the conference: they have great pitching, solid defense and can swing the bats better than anyone else in the conference,” conceded Bray.

“We had a great opportunity to honor our senior Savannah Schewe today!” as the Flames recognized Schewe for her contributions to the program over her four years on campus between games of the double-header.

College of Saint Mary wraps up the 2024 season on Saturday, Apr. 27 when they host Dakota Wesleyan University for a double-header beginning at 1 p.m. Said Bray, “We are looking to finish strong in our final double-header Saturday.”

Game One: Midland 7, CSM 0

Aliyah Rincon (23-4) spun a complete game shutout for the Warriors, limiting CSM to just three hits. She struck out four and walked one.

Shaylynn Campbell (6-17) took the loss, going the distance in the circle for the Flames.

Midland struck for three in the second to give Rincon all the run-support she needed. Isabelle Pagan and Mia Orduna each doubled home a run an Emily Prai singled in Orduna for the early 3-0 lead.

The Warriors added three more in the fifth with Pagan singling home a run and Orduna knocking in two with a base hit of her own before adding an insurance tally via a sac fly form Jayci Reimers in the sixth.

Sydney Griffin doubled while Savannah Schewe and Campbell each picked up singles in the game.

Game One: Midland 9, CSM 0 (6 Innings)

Paeton Coler (13-2) struck out eight and faced just one over the limit as she spun a one-hit shutout in game two.

Cassie Wiseman‘s third inning single accounted for the Flames’ lone hit in the contest.

Amanda Schmaderer put Midland on the board with a two-run double as the Warriors used a four-run top of the first to jump out on top early.

A solo home run by Roni Foote in the third and a two-run shot from Camille Vestal later in the inning stretched the Warrior lead to 7-0.

Foote drove in a run with a ground ball in the sixth and Schmaderer singled in a run for a 9-0 advantage.

Daisy Lowther (1-4) suffered the loss in the circle for CSM. Megan Garcia provided four solid innings of relief work, allowing a pair of runs on four hits.
