SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – For the third time this season and the second time in a row, the Mavericks have swept the TicketSmarter Summit League Player of the Week Awards, with Matt Goetzmann being named Peak Performer and Luke Gainer being named Peak Pitcher.

Goetzmann extended his hitting streak to 11 straight games after hitting safely in all four games at K-State and North Dakota State last week, increasing his batting average to .329 on the season. He also had three multi-hit games, including a 3-for-5 effort in game two of Saturday’s doubleheader. Against the Wildcats, he also clubbed a lead-off home run and a triple. Overall, Goetzmann went 8-for-14 (.571) with five RBIs and four runs scored.

This is the first weekly honor of Goetzmann’s career.

As for Gainer, he threw four shutout innings across Saturday and Sunday against NDSU, earning his fourth save of the season and ninth of his career in the series opener to move into 9th on the program’s all-time saves list. Then, in the finale, he tossed three scoreless in the pouring rain, racking up four strikeouts. He allowed just one hit over the weekend while striking out six.

This is Gainer’s first career weekly honor.
