OMAHA, Neb. – Turnovers proved costly for the College of Saint Mary basketball team Saturday afternoon.

The Flames lost 87-54 to Morningside University in the Great Plains Athletic Conference contest. CSM committed 31 miscues in the game.

“We cannot win games in this league not being fundamentally sound and turning it over like we did,” CSM Coach Kirk Walker said. “We continue to lose players to injury and we just don’t have the depth we need. We have too many ladies having to play out of position.”

The Mustangs shot 50 percent from the floor, 50 percent from long distance and 67 percent from the free-throw line. College of Saint Mary shot 31 percent, 36 percent and 72 percent, respectively.

“We shot it well from the free-throw line again and that seems to be getting better,” Walker said. “We’re getting to the line more often also.”

Bailey White (SR/Council Bluffs, Iowa) led CSM with 12 points, while teammate Clare Lewandowski (SR/Lincoln, Neb.) and Madelyn Turner (SR/Bennington, Neb.) both scored 10. Kaylin Garza (FR/Belle Fourche, S.D.) chipped in with seven points and Kenzi Hoit (SR/Omaha, Neb.) added six. Lewandowski had a team-high seven rebounds and both Turner and Garza pulled down six.

“Right now our inability to keep the ball in front of us on defense just isn’t allowing us to be competitive game to game,” Walker said. “We have a couple of tough games coming up next week and hopefully we can find our way a little and be ready to play with more urgency.”

The Flames fall to 2-14 in the GPAC and 5-17 overall. CSM travels to Northwestern College Wednesday for a GPAC contest. The Red Raiders were ranked No. 15 in the most recent NAIA poll.
