The Central Community College women’s basketball team defeated Northeast Community College, 71-63, on Wednesday night at the Raider Fieldhouse.

The Raiders claimed the opening quarter, 22-18, before the Hawks pulled to within one point at halftime, 35-34. The teams were tied at 50 apiece at the end of the third period. CCC opened the fourth quarter with a 7-0 run over the first three and a half minutes before the Hawks posted their first points of the period. Over the next three minutes, Northeast was able to tie the game at 60 before CCC put the game away with an 8-0 run.

Madisen Jelinek led four CCC players in double-digit scoring with 21 points while Alyssa Reardon scored 20 points. Makenna Pelster scored 15 points off the bench while Nikie Nelson finished with 13 points.

“This was a really good team win,” said CCC head coach Kasi Stoltz. “It’s always nice to see four kids in double figures. I thought Makenna handled the point position well and Alyssa hit some big three-point baskets.”

The win gives the Raiders a 7-5 season mark.

CCC returns to action Friday and Saturday at the Southeast Community College Holiday Classic in Beatrice. On Friday, the Raiders will battle the Scotties of Highland (Kan.) Community College at 2 p.m. On Saturday, CCC and Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College will meet at 12 noon.
