Sargent school recall election set for Dec. 12
October 2nd, 2023 | Andrew Lacy

SARGENT – Election day for a recall effort targeting four of the six members of the Sargent Board of Education has been set for Tuesday, Dec. 12.

The school board met Monday morning to set the date for the election after petitioners successfully collected enough signatures to force a vote.

Voters will face a series of simple yes or no questions of whether Board President Martin Riddle, Vice President Loyd Pointer and board members Tammera Moody and Laura Kipp should be removed from office. The four have faced heavy criticism for their votes in February not to retain Cory Grint as principal.

Custer County Clerk Constance Gracey said the election will be conducted by mail with ballots expected to be sent to registered voters in the school district the week of Nov. 20. The deadline to register to vote in the election will be 6 p.m. on Dec. 1.

In order to be counted ballots must be returned to the County Clerk’s Office by close of business on Dec. 12.
