The Furnas County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 68-year-old Arapahoe man on an arrest warrant for 1st Degree False Imprisonment. On Sunday, May 5th, the Sheriff’s Office responded to a woman at an Arapahoe convenience store who reported being abducted while walking along the main street in Arapahoe. The 23-year-old woman said she was pulled into a pickup by the driver through the driver’s open door. A deputy attempted to locate the pickup but, was not successful at the time.

The driver of the pickup, later identified as James L. Maaske, reportedly pulled up to the victim but, she advised she didn’t need a ride. According to the Sheriff’s Office report, this was when she was pulled into the pickup and the man drove-off with her inside. Maaske reportedly had driven her “out into the country away from Arapahoe” and then left her at the convenience store.

Maaske was later arrested on Tuesday afternoon. He was released from custody Wednesday after posted 10% of $150,000 bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Furnas County Court on June 3, 2024 at 1:00pm. Ist Degree False Imprisonment is a Class IIIa Felony and carries a maximum penalty of 3 years imprisonment, 18 months post-release supervision or $10,000 fine or both.
