Holdrege, Neb. – After an 0-9 season last year, the 2024 Holdrege Duster Football looks to come out strong. Head Coach Jacob McLain knows there’s still an uphill battle, but he’s optimistic that his team can show some noticeable improvement.
Most of that improvement will be up to a larger share of underclassmen than some may be comfortable with. 29 members of the 44-player roster are freshmen and sophomores. Coach McLain is prepared and confident there’s enough experience to rely on while the underclassmen catch up. In other words, this is a team that could start to surprise people after a few weeks.
McLain is no stranger to providing a clear-cut vision for his expectations each season. He says the 2023 Duster team set the bar when it comes to the team’s standards, and this year’s team plans to raise it. To McLain, that means his team will always be ready and focused. They’ll give everything they have and run “everywhere” in practice.
Besides getting better on the field and producing wins, Coach McLain demands that his players carry themselves in a positive way. His goal is for every player to be a good teammate and “…be intentional in how you treat people and how you talk about people on and off the field.”
As the first game inches closer, the Dusters will continue to be tough, aggressive, and physical. Make no mistake, after an 0-9 season, Holdrege High School Football is prepared to show the fruits of their labor. Coach McLain has a strong message coming into the new season, “The results are coming. They will be here.”
