Celebration of Life Graveside Service for Richard L. “Dick” Miska will be held at a later date at Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege.

Richard Lee “Dick” Miska, 97 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away, on April 20, 2024, at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Dick was born in Ord, Nebraska on November 5, 1926, the third of four children, born to Wesley and Lola (McClatchey) Miska. He received his primary education from a rural school in Valley County, Nebraska, and later attended and graduated from Ord High School, with the class of 1944.

In 1945, Dick moved with his parents to Loup City in Sherman County, Nebraska, where he farmed with them for two years. Dick then worked for Spelts Lumber Yard for a year and helped Rueben Cook build the Alis Chamber Farm Implement Dealership. In 1950, Dick moved to Holdrege and ran a bread route for Jesse Baking Co. in Grand Island, Nebraska.

On December 28, 1952, Dick was united in marriage to Junetta Rosa Murray in Holdrege, and to this union, four children were born: Rosalea, Clayton, Wendell, and Dwight. Dick went to work for Montgomery Ward Store for 15 years, then Holdrege Co-op Hardware for five years. Dick worked for Holdrege Public Schools for 21 years in the maintenance department and driving the school bus while also driving the delivery route for Double D Cleaners. In 1999, Dick and Junetta both retired.

Dick enjoyed woodworking, and together they enjoyed traveling and made several trips to California to visit family. If not every year, the family would travel to California every other year to help work in the rice fields with their family. Dick and Junetta loved attending as many of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities as they could.

He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege, where he and Junetta were both devoted members of the Kiwanis Club for several years. Assisting with the fundraising efforts for Kiwanis was very important to them.

In June of 2021, Dick moved to Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege where he enjoyed playing BINGO and attending Wednesday Chapel Services. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the nursing home staff for taking such wonderful care of Dick while he made Christian Homes his home.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Junetta Miska; his parents, Wesley and Lola Miska; two grandsons: Andrew Miller in infancy; and Jonathan Miska; son-in-law, Cleveland Miller; brothers: Elwood Miska during WWII; Gerald Miska and his wife, Betty; and one sister, Catherine Baillie and her husband, Earle.

He leaves to celebrate his life four children: Rosalea Miller of Lincoln, Nebraska; Clayton Miska of Kansas City, Missouri; Wendell Miska of Holdrege; and Dwight Miska of Salt Lake City, Utah; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
