Raymond John Tegtman, 93 years of age, of Stamford, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at the Beaver City Manor in Beaver City, Nebraska.  Raymond was born on January 21, 1931, on a farm in southwest Harlan County, the eldest of two boys, born to John and Edna (McCarver) Tegtman. After several moves, the family settled on a farm several miles south of Stamford where Raymond grew to adulthood. Raymond attended and graduated high school in Stamford in 1948. After graduation, he helped his dad on the farm and began dating Ilene Johnson.

Raymond married Ilene Laverne (Johnson) Tegtman on March 9, 1952, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stamford. Shortly after their marriage, Raymond left for basic training and for the first two years of marriage, they lived in Oceanside, California, where Raymond served a tour of duty in the Marine Corps. Ilene joined him shortly after basic training and worked at the Social Services office and then at Camp Pendleton in the Civil Service Office. Raymond assisted the Sargent Major in the office for most of his military career. Though his Sargent Major wanted him to stay, the farm in Nebraska was calling. After Raymond’s discharge in 1954, the couple made their home on a farm near Hollinger, Nebraska and God blessed them with two children: Dennis and Raylene. In 1970, the couple purchased a farm southwest of Stamford and in 1990, the couple moved into Stamford where he resided until March of 2024. Raymond continued farming and raising cattle until retirement.

Raymond was a faithful and active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stamford all his life, rarely missing a Sunday until his declining health late last year. He was also a member of the American Legion in Stamford for 70 years. During that time, he never missed a Memorial Day service.

Family was very important to Raymond and Ilene. Up until health wouldn’t allow, he and Ilene didn’t miss an important family event or any activities involving their children or grandchildren!

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ilene; and his brother, Don Tegtman and his wife, Kathy.

Raymond leaves to celebrate his life; daughter, Raylene Bugbee and her husband, Gene of Phillipsburg, Kansas; and Dennis Tegtman and his wife, Sheryl of Stamford; five grandchildren: Justin Schriner of Jewell, Kansas; Courtney Kirschner and her husband, Rodney of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Amanda Rasmussen and her husband, Travis of Waterloo, Nebraska; Ross Bugbee and his wife, Brandi of Manhattan, Kansas; and Abby Bugbee and boyfriend, Alex Williams of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; four great-grandchildren: Everly, Francie and Royal Rasmussen; and Marlee Bugbee; two sisters-in-law:  Ronda Noren of Alma, Nebraska; and Sandra DeSelms of Spring, Texas; one brother-in-law: Stanley Johnson and his wife, Sonya of Stamford; along with nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
