OMAHA, Neb. — Creighton Volleyball senior Kendra Wait has been named the AVCA/GameChanger Division I Player of the Week after helping the Bluejays to a pair of Top 10 victories and the Jayhawk Classic title.

Wait averaged 13.71 assists, 3.71 digs, 1.29 blocks and 0.86 kills per set and hit .267, attaining a pair of double-doubles as Creighton picked up back-to-back Top 10 wins for the first time in program history.

The Gardner, Kan., native had a season-high 51 assists on Friday in a 3-1 win vs. No. 6 Purdue, adding 11 digs, six blocks and five kills on .273 hitting. She wrapped up her week with 45 assists, 15 digs, three blocks, one ace and one kill in a 3-0 sweep over No. 10 Kansas, a school where her sister Cassie played from 2013-16. Creighton hit .426 as a team in the victory as Wait quarterbacked the Bluejay offense to their top hitting percentage of the season, and top mark ever against a ranked foe.

Wait’s 13.71 assists per set were the most over the course of a week by any player in the country this season.

Wait is Creighton’s third AVCA National Player of the Week in program history, joining Michelle Sicner (Oct. 15, 2013) and Keeley Davis (Oct. 15, 2019).

Ranked sixth nationally, the 10-time defending BIG EAST champions return to the court with three home matches to open league play. That stretch starts on Friday at 6 p.m. against Providence.
