OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton fifth-year senior Madeline Vejvoda has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week after guiding the Bluejays to a series win over BIG EAST front runner Villanova this past weekend in Omaha.

This marks the first BIG EAST weekly honor of Vejvoda’s career as she becomes the first Bluejay to earn BIG EAST Player of the Week honors since Kailey Wilson nabbed the final weekly honor of the 2022 season.

Vejvoda, a Papillion, Neb. native, started all four games for Creighton at second base, pacing the Bluejays with a .500 (7-of-14) batting average with three doubles, three RBI, two hit-by-pitches and two runs scored.

After opening the week with a 1-for-3 showing in a midweek contest against Omaha, Vejvoda started the Bluejays weekend series against BIG EAST front-runner Villanova, delivered a pair of singles, including a game-tying two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning to help the Jays to an 8-7 walk-off win over the Wildcats.

Vejvoda followed with a 2-for-3 performance in game two of Friday’s doubleheader, lining a pair of doubles and scoring a run as the Bluejays came up just short of another walk-off victory. She then closed out the series with another multi-hit game, delivering an RBI double and scoring a run of her own in a 12-4 run-rule victory on Saturday afternoon.

This season Vejvoda has started all 39 games for the Bluejays and currently leads the team with a .348 batting average and 10 doubles. Dating back to 2021, Vejvoda has started in 154 consecutive contests, which is the longest streak since Kelsey Allender started 185 consecutive games from 2013-16.

Winners of five of their last seven, Creighton hosts South Dakota tomorrow night at 5 p.m.
