GREELEY, Colo. – The Mavericks began the weekend with a seven-inning loss as they were defeated 15-5 by Northern Colorado.

Omaha slides to 3-17 on the season and 1-3 in the Summit League, while the Bears pick up their first win of the year to move to 1-21 overall and 1-3 in league play.

Innings 1-3
Initially falling behind 2-0 after the first inning, the Mavericks scored their first run of the day in the top of the second as three singles and a fielder’s choice loaded the bases for Haiden Hunt who promptly drew walk to force in a run. This would be the last time Omaha got this close to Northern Colorado, however, as the Bears responded with six more runs over the next two innings to go up 8-1.

Innings 4-7
For a moment, Omaha looked like it was primed to get back in the game after a huge fourth inning. Drew Lechnir led off with a solo shot to right for his first home run of the season. Then, a walk to Trent Burkhalter and a couple of errors allowed him and Zach Lechnir to get into scoring position. With one out, Matt Goetzmann punched one through the left side to drive in the second run of the inning. Finally, with two outs and the bases loaded, Grant Sommers singled to right to drive in a pair and cut the Bears’ lead to 8-5.

The momentum proved to be short lived, though, as UNC scored another seven runs over the next two innings before shutting down the Mavericks’ offense and winning in seven due to the run rule.

Inside the Box Score
Sommers went 3-for-3 with a walk to reach base safely in every at bat.

Ethan Louthan threw the only scoreless inning of the day for Omaha in the bottom of the fourth when he struck out one and stranded two baserunners.

On Deck
Due to unfavorable weather on Sunday, the Mavericks and Bears will now play a doubleheader tomorrow starting at 12:30 p.m. (CT) with Caleb Riedel (1-1) and Trevor Landen (0-0) set to start game one.
