OMAHA, Neb. – In a showdown between the only two Summit League teams with six conference wins, the Mavericks could not slow down South Dakota State’s offense as they were downed 7-2.

Omaha drops to 8-22 overall and is now a game under .500 in conference play at 6-7. Meanwhile, the Jackrabbits improve to 15-16 with a 7-5 conference record.

Innings 1-3
Omaha was first on the board today as Matt Goetzmann singled and reached third on a Drew Lechnir double before coming home on a sharp grounder from Tyler Bishop in the bottom of the first.

On the mound, Charlie Bell was almost perfect through the first three innings, striking out two and allowing just two base runners on a couple of walks.

Innings 4-6
The Jackrabbits would take the lead in the top of the fourth on back-to-back solo home runs from Cael Frost and Dawson Perry. After SDSU got another run in the top of the fifth, Omaha again got runners on second and third in the bottom of the inning but could not cash in.

Bell ended his day with a scoreless sixth inning, stranding another two Jackrabbits in the process.

Innings 7-9
Frost would club his second home run of the day in the top of the seventh to grow the SDSU lead to 6-1. The next inning, the Jackrabbits would add one more run before shutting down Omaha over the final two innings to take the opening game of the series.
