The Sheridan County Fair is underway in Gordon, Nebraska. A large component of this event is the PRCA rodeo that will be taking place July 25-27.

Five years ago, the rodeo transitioned from being sanctioned by the Nebraska State Rodeo Association (NSRA) and Mid-States Rodeo Association (MSRA), to the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA).

While some rodeo committees have been struggling to fill their performances, particularly in the roughstock events, rodeo president Scott Lindsey says the Sheridan County PRCA Rodeo has only continued to grow.

“Our rodeo is so big this year we are going to have two sections of bronc riding at each performance,” said Lindsey.

The three-performance rodeo will feature some of the top athletes in the professional rodeo scene. In 2023, the rodeo drew in 21 world champions and competitors from seven countries. This year’s roster of contestants is expected to be just as competitive.

With the breakaway roping 108 entries strong, Lindsey is excited to watch the competition unfold.

“The top 20 ladies breakaway ropers in the world will be here,” said Lindsey.

The rodeo will take place July 25-27 with tailgate parties at 7pm and performances at 8pm nightly. Slack will take place Thursday and Friday morning at 9am and is free to the public.
