Support for fallen firefighter & all firefighters attending to the Bovee Fire

Thomas County, Neb. — Firefighters continue to work on gaining containment of a wildfire burning in the Halsey Forest area. U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer tells the Rural Radio Network it’s a terrible situation, made worse by the death of a firefighter…

Purdum Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Mike Moody, 59 years of age, was identified as the firefighter who died. The Rocky Mountain Complex Incident Management Team 1 assumed management of the fire at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3. The team is one of three CIM teams in the Rocky Mountain geographic area.

E15 sales year-round

Sen. Fischer, a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, is continuing to use her voice to push for the sale of year round E15. Sen. Fischer says it will help lower prices for families. Sen. Fischer commented on the E15 issue prior to touring Chief Ethanol in Lexington, Nebraska on Tuesday morning, Oct. 4…

Senator Fischer is the lead sponsor of the bipartisan Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act. The bill would extend the Reid vapor pressure (RVP) volatility waiver to ethanol blends above 10 percent. It would increase market access and continue to allow retailers across the country to sell E15 and other higher-ethanol fuel blends year round, eliminating confusion at the pump.

Sustainable Beef groundbreaking

Attendance at a groundbreaking for Sustainable Beef, a proposed beef processing plant for North Platte, was on Sen. Fischer’s agenda for Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 4. Fischer says Sustainable Beef will have a big impact on the area…

David Briggs, CEO of Sustainable Beef says the plant is expected to provide nearly 900 new jobs.

Bipartisan Cattle Bill

Sen. Fischer’s Price Discovery and Transparency Act passed out of the Senate Agriculture Committee in June on a voice vote with only two recorded no votes and is now eligible for a final vote on the Senate floor. Sen. Fischer says it’s crunch time…

The bill would mandate more cash trading in the cattle market and establish a new office in the USDA to investigate antitrust complaints in the meat sector.

Mexico’s opposition to GMO corn

Sen. Fischer wants to find a solution to trade problems with Mexico over genetically modified corn. In 2020, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador issued a decree to enact a ban on genetically modified corn for human consumption by 2024. Sen. Fischer says Nebraska is the top producer of white corn and the Biden administration needs to step forward and push Mexico on the issue…

During a Senate Ag Committee hearing earlier this year, Ag. Secretary Vilsack told Senator Fischer that he would work with our trading partners in Mexico to provide certainty and market access for Nebraska corn producers.

Biden Administration’s student loan forgiveness

Sen. Fischer says Pres. Biden’s student loan forgiveness program is transferring debt from those who borrowed it to current and future taxpayers. Fischer says the plan is also unconstitutional…

Fischer’s opposition to the loan forgiveness program is similar to that expressed by other members of Nebraska’s congressional delegation. Nebraska is one of six Republican-led states that filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration to try to stop its plan to forgive student loan debt for millions of Americans. The states, which also include Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and South Carolina, are accusing it of overstepping its executive powers and have asked for an immediate temporary restraining order to pause the program.
