On Sunday afternoon just after 1:00 p.m. the Stanton County Sheriff’s office clocked a northbound car on Hwy 57 about 12 miles South of Stanton going 118 mph plus in the posted 65 mph zone.

The driver, Ariz Zarate-Gonzalez, 19, of Arlington, SD told the deputy that stopped him that he was in a hurry to get home, but first needed to make a pit stop at Raising Canes to get chicken strips.

The Sheriff’s office wants to remind everyone that we take speeding violations seriously and discourage everyone from driving foolishly and putting innocent people at unwarranted risk, at these high speeds there is no time to react for the average driver.

Believe it or not, “High speeds in and of themselves are not considered reckless driving no matter how fast the speed, according to Nebraska law that has been set by the Nebraska state legislature.” Sheriff Mike Unger said.

Zarate-Gonzalez was cited for Careless Driving as well as Speeding 118 in a 65.
