Southeast Community College (SCC) is expanding and modernizing its facilities for the agriculture program to better meet the needs of today’s skilled workforce.

The SCC Beatrice Campus will soon feature a welding training building that’s set to open in the fall of 2024.

Dean of Agriculture, Welding and Transportation Jon Kisby said the 4,000 square foot space will be able to accommodate 20 students, with a fabrication area on top of that.

“That will serve the local industry – manufacturing – as well as everything from hobbyists to ag education majors,” he said.

In addition to the welding space, an Agriculture Career Center is in the design and funding stages. The space is intended to be half-education, half-arena to suit the needs of the school, community and new rodeo program.

Kisby said the Milford and Lincoln campuses are seeing new developments, too. A 180-booth welding facility, once completed next year, will create the largest community college-based welding program in the country. Also in the plans, he said, a STEM building at the Lincoln campus and a new construction space at the Milford campus.
