Omaha Metro heavily damaged by storm

Omaha Metro heavily damaged by storm
August 1st, 2024 | Connie Green

Damages from Wednesday’s storm include plenty of branches and some downed power lines in the Fort Calhoun area. The metro area suffered damage to the lower section of Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo. Zoo officials say no people or animals were hurt. Meanwhile, the city of Papillion is requesting that residents stay off roadways while they are being cleared of debris and downed lines. That storm also damaged state parks. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has closed Two Rivers and Louisville state recreation areas, and the Fort Atkinson State Historical Park, as well as the Family Aquatic Center at Mahoney State Park. The Living history weekend at Fort Atkinson has been canceled – storm debris is blocking the only entrance to that park. You can keep track of the progress of clean up at those parks by going online to outdoornebraska.gov.
