Northeast Softball loses to Morningside JV

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Northeast Community College softball team traveled to Sioux City, Iowa Monday for a matchup with Morningside University JV. The Hawks fell in the contest by a final score of 7-4 and will now look ahead to their home opener next.

Northeast (2-11) jumped ahead 1-0 early thanks to a double from Kelsey Choplin (Gibbon, Neb.) that scored Lauren Marker (Kearney, Neb.). The Hawks held on to the lead until the sixth inning, where the Mustangs rallied for four runs. Choplin tossed all six innings in the circle and struck out four batters while also recording two hits at the plate and three RBIs.

Head Softball Coach Erin Sharpe on how the ballgame played out:

“I thought we had some really good plays where we looked like we were making improvements,” Sharpe said. “Overall, our bats are still hot. We just have to work on pitching and defense.”

Sharpe on what needs to be worked on before the Hawks host their home opener next:

“We need to work hard on defense and pitching,” Sharpe said. “Finding our groove where we feel comfortable and smooth. This team has potential. We just need to find our rhythm.”

UP NEXT:

The Hawks will get to play at home next in a doubleheader with Central Community College starting at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 27 at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park in Norfolk.
