Northeast Softball drops Doubleheader to Iowa Central

BOONE, Iowa – The Northeast Community College softball team returned home to Ta-Ha Zouka Park in Norfolk Wednesday for a doubleheader with RV Iowa Central Community College. The Hawks fell in both matchups by final scores of 14-0 and 20-5.

Northeast (3-30, 0-18 ICCAC) saw an explosion of runs in Game 2 as Ahdriana Medrano (Grand Island, Neb.) homered to center field in the bottom of the third inning in what was her second long ball of the year. In the fourth frame, Amanda Quintana-Gonzales (Denver, Colo.) also blasted a home run to center field before Talia Bandt (Grand Island, Neb.) sent a two-run homer to left field just two batters later.

The Hawks will make their final road trip of the regular season this weekend before returning home for their last six showdowns of the 2024 campaign.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head Softball Coach Erin Sharpe on the day and the three blasts:

“We have the power,” Sharpe said. “We just need to focus on putting the right swings on the right pitches. We need to continue attacking the strike zone aggressively.”

Sharpe on where she wants her team’s mindset to be heading to Iowa this weekend:

“We need to focus on hitting, but also grit,” Sharpe said. “Knowing how to play through tough situations to use them to our advantage and grow from them.”

UP NEXT:

The Hawks will head out on the road this weekend and will take on Hawkeye Community College beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday in Waterloo, Iowa.
