Farming on the banks of the Missouri River is presenting a challenge this week as flooding from the north travels into Nebraska.
Quentin Connealy has been producing corn and soybeans in the area for 16 years and this is the third flood he has seen.
“We’re going to ride this out…it might take a little crop,” Connealy said, “but right now [the river] is looking like it will crest sometime here today or tomorrow.”
Connealy said they have the Missouri River pouring into their drainage ditches and sitting in low spots across their land.
Debris has also been a factor with even 100-foot-tall trees floating past in flooded streams.
“I’ve never seen that much stuff come down the river at once… it’s crazy.”
He said it’s too early to determine the long-term impacts on his corn and soybean crops, but moving forward, he said they’ll continue to assess the water damage as the levels decrease.
