Northeast comes up short at Southeastern

WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa – The Northeast Community College volleyball team traveled Wednesday night to West Burlington, Iowa for a conference matchup with Southeastern Community College. The Hawks fell in the matchup by a final score of 3-1.

Northeast (12-5, 1-2 ICCAC) was topped 20-25 in the first set by the Blackhawks but rallied back to take the second set 25-23. Mya Hedstrom (O’Neill, Neb.) again led the Hawks in kills with 16 while Teya Boyer (Plainview, Neb.) led Northeast in assists with 21. Northeast will stay on the road and will next compete with the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the 2024 NJCAA Week Three DII Volleyball Poll as they will have a doubleheader with No. 1 Cowley County Community College and No. 2 Johnson County Community College on Friday in Overland Park, Kansas.

Head Volleyball Coach Amanda Schultze on the match and moving forward to the weekend:

“We made a lot of errors that should not happen at this level,” Schultze said. “I believe the girls learned from that and also learned that we need more leadership on the court. We have set some goals to help us move forward this weekend.”

UP NEXT:

The Hawks will face two high-quality opponents on Friday in a doubleheader starting with No. 1 Cowley County Community College at 3 p.m. Friday and No. 2 Johnson County Community College at 5 p.m. in Overland Park, Kansas.
