WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa – The Northeast Community College baseball team finished their three-game series with No. 6 Southeastern Community College in West Burlington, Iowa Sunday. The Hawks fell in the showdown by a final score of 15-7, but have now taken their first two conference series of the season.

Northeast (17-11, 4-1 ICCAC) clinched the series victory yesterday with a sweep of the Blackhawks and were ahead 4-0 after their portion of two innings before the Southeastern bats caught fire. Cade Grevengoed (West Des Moines, Iowa) put together an outstanding afternoon at the plate as the sophomore tallied three hits and three RBIs. Kale Jensen (Central City, Neb.) launched the only home run of the series for the Hawks in the matchup as Northeast will now prepare for a road trip to Ellsworth Community College this week.

STAT SHEET:

Cade Grevengoed (West Des Moines, Iowa): 3-5, 2 2B, 2 R, 3 RBI

Kale Jensen (Central City, Neb.): 2-5, HR, R, RBI

Rusty Wortman (Gretna, Neb.): 1-3, 2B, R, 2 BB

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head Baseball Coach Marcus Clapp on the weekend as a whole and the upcoming series with Ellsworth:

“It’s a tale of two days,” Clapp said. “We played clean baseball yesterday and had way too many mistakes today. We hit the ball well but the errors and walks were just too much to overcome. You can’t give good teams free passes or that’s what’s going to happen. We need to clean that up and try and get back on track with Ellsworth.”

UP NEXT:

The Hawks will be back on the road for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Iowa Falls, Iowa against Ellsworth Community College.
