Just after 4:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon the Stanton County Sheriff’s office responded to a disturbance call at a residence in Woodland Park. While enroute to the scene, 911 dispatchers advised the male suspect who had gained entry by breaking a door was armed with a gun. Upon arriving contact was made with 38-year old Charles Owens, of Norfolk and he was detained. He admitted having a handgun and throwing it into a field just prior to law enforcement arrival and then later changed his story. He was then arrested on charges of Criminal Trespass, Criminal Mischief, Disturbing the Peace, Third Degree Assault, Prohibited Acts (Under Influence of Illegal Drugs), and Attempted Possession of a Dangerous Weapon (Handgun) by a Prohibited Person/Felon.
