The state’s layer numbers surged, averaging 7.50 million, marking an 8% increase from 2022. Moreover, the annual average production per layer reached 298 eggs, showing a 3% rise from the previous year.
Egg production in Nebraska for the year ending November 30, 2023, soared to 2.24 billion eggs, reflecting a 12% increase compared to 2022.
The total number of chickens on hand (excluding commercial broilers) as of December 1, 2023, stood at 10.5 million birds, indicating a notable 13% rise from the previous year’s figures.
In terms of value, the total worth of all chickens in Nebraska as of December 1, 2023, reached $56.8 million, marking an 11% increase from December 1, 2022. However, the average value per bird experienced a slight decline, dropping from $5.50 per bird in 2022 to $5.40 per bird in 2023.
