So-called “clean buses” are coming to schools across the country with the help of federal funding, including two school districts in Nebraska, according to the Nebraska Examiner.
The nationwide effort from the Biden Administration will provide over 500 school districts across nearly all 50 states with about $1 billion to help them purchase “clean” school buses through the Clean School Bus Program.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the program funds electric buses, which produce zero tailpipe emissions and propane and compressed natural gas (CNG) buses, which are said to produce lower tailpipe emissions compared to their older diesel predecessors.
The effort is aimed at replacing diesel-fueled school buses.
The Winnebago district will receive $1.035 million and the Omaha School District will receive $1.45 million for three electric buses each.
About 92% of all of the clean school buses purchased will be electric, according to the administration.
