Hastings, Nebraska cowgirl Lynsie Lancaster currently leads the standings in the goat tying heading into the last regular season high school rodeo of the year. The recent graduate of Adams Central High School has been involved in the Nebraska High School Rodeo Association since she was a freshman.

Lancaster, a third-generation high school rodeo competitor and the youngest of four siblings, has found rodeo to be a competitive outlet. She competes in goat tying, breakaway roping and team roping.

Lancaster’s success in the goat tying is no accident. She own two goats, Doug and Clyde, that she practices with daily. Her mount is a 25-year-old gelding, who Lancaster says is “well aware of his job.”

In addition to competing in multiple events, Lancaster also serves as the current Nebraska High School Rodeo Queen. She says this role is especially rewarding.

“At Adams Central, my sister and I were the only kids that participated in rodeo,” said Lancaster. “I get to inform my town and surrounding areas about what I love to do, and give a great representation of what rodeo actually is.”

The weekend of May 31st is a stacked last weekend of the regular season. NEHSRA athletes will compete in Bridgeport, Harrison, and Crawford over the course of three days. From there, athletes and their families will have a break until the NEHSRA State Finals June 13-15 in Burwell.

As Lancaster eyes a qualification to the National High School Finals Rodeo, her perspective remains grounded.

“My biggest goal is to enjoy it. I am surrounded by a lot of love and support,” said Lancaster. “I can control what I can control, and not more than that.”
