Morningside Volleyball wins in four sets over Dakota State

MADISON, S.D. – The Morningside University women’s volleyball team had three hitters with double-digit kills in a 25-19, 20-25, 25-19, 25-16 win over RV Dakota State on Wednesday at DSU Fieldhouse.

Claire Wilson led Morningside (8-1) with 16 kills, while Sydney Marlow and Emma Haren each contributed 12 kills. Wilson hit .341 and Haren had a hitting percentage of .345.

Aleksandra Dalach had a team-high 28 assists, while Kyla Dyrstad had 19. Aureana Bernales, who also led Morningside with 20 digs, also had five assists.

Marlow also had 18 digs.

Morningside’s largest lead in the first set was nine, when it held a 23-14 lead. Emma Haren closed out the set with a kill following a Trojans service error.

Set three saw the Mustangs go on a 9-3 run in the middle of it following the two teams being tied at 10-10. Marlow closed out the set by recording kills on three of the last four set points.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the fourth stanza. Wilson had two kills in that run, and Adelyn Harris had a kill. Emerson Smith closed out the match with a kill, assisted by Marlow.

The Mustangs are in action Friday and Saturday at the United Sports Academy in North Sioux City facing No. 9 Jamestown, Cottey, Mayville State, and York. That will close out their non-conference schedule.
