Morningside Softball splits with Concordia

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Mustangs and Bulldogs started Tuesday tied with 11-7 records in GPAC play and ended the day tied at 12-8 after splitting a doubleheader at Jensen Softball Complex.

The Bulldogs shutout Morningside 5-0 in game one and the Mustangs returned the favor with a 2-0 win in game two.

Concordia scored one in the first inning of game one, but the rest of the damage was done in the sixth, as Concordia struck for four runs to pull away with the win.

Starting pitcher Bralen Biddlecome had a double at the plate and Paige Schuster singled in the game. Biddlecome pitched five and two-thirds in the game, taking the loss in the circle. Maggie Fisher recorded the final four outs.

In game two, it was Morningside’s turn to score in the first. Mackenzi Harrel hit a fly ball to right field that was caught by the right fielder, but as she did, she ran into the center fielder. As she hit the ground, Mackenna Sidzyik raced from second base to home to score the game’s first run. The second run for Morningside came on a solo home run by starting pitcher Morgan Secora

Schuster recorded two hits, including a double. Lainie Keller doubled and Secora hit the solo homer. Ellie Gengler added a base hit. In the circle, Morgan Secora cruised through seven innings in just 80 pitches, throwing 61 strikes. She struck out two and allowed four hits and no walks. 

The Mustangs are tied with Jamestown and Concordia for fourth in the GPAC at 12-8. The Mustangs and Jimmies are set for a doubleheader Saturday, the final day of the regular season. The doubleheader is at 1 p.m. at the Jensen Softball Complex in Sioux City.
