Fremont, Nebraska- Blake Tablazon, Tymon Long and Tyler Harrington hit home runs in the second inning, leading the Fremont Moo to a decisive 21-2 victory over the Oahe Zap, Wednesday night at Historic Moller Field.
The Moo got the offense going in the bottom of the first. Christian Hobbs led off with a single before Henry Hayman was hit by a pitch. Then, Tyman Long smacked a rbi double, scoring Hobbs to make it 1-0. Tyler Harrington, then poked a rbi single bringing in Hayman to put Fremont ahead 2-0. The next batter, Ben Swails, hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Long to make it 3-0,
Fremont’s offense exploded in the second inning, as Fremont scored six runs, after sending eleven batters to the plate. With one out, Tabalzon hit the first pitch from Zap starter Nick Blessing (1-2) over the right field fence, to make it 4-0. Hobbs and Hayman followed with a single and a double before Tyman Long connected with a three-run homer, just to the right of the “Moller Monster”, in left field, to make it 7-0. On the very next pitch, Harrington hit his first homer in his Moo career, to left field, making it 8-0. Swails singled and stole second and Trey Nichols drew a walk. Swails would take third on a pickoff attempt to second base. putting runners at second and third. Sammy Contacos drew a walk and Braden Sweet hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Swails to make it 9-0, the Moo.
In the fourth, Fremont added four more runs. Swails drew a one-out walk, then stole second and third. Two batters later, Contacos drew a walk. Next, an errant pickoff attempt to first by catcher Carson Trumpold scored Swails and advanced Contacos to third. Then, Sweet delivered a rbi single, scoring Contacos. Tablazon was hit by a pitch and Hobbs smoked a two-rbi double to make it 13-0, Fremont.
The Moo added five more in the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Swails drew a walk and Nichols reached on a fielding error at shortstop. Contacos was hit by a pitch and Sweet drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Swails. Tablazon delivered a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Nichols. Hobbs would draw a walk, then, Hayman hit a fly ball to the warning track in left field that got Oahe’s Kolby Rich turned around, and he dropped the ball, allowing Contacos, Sweet and Hobbs, to all score, making it 18-0, Fremont.
Oahe would get on the board in the sixth. Leadoff batter Jackson Mix drew a walk, before Kyle Memarian hit a fly ball to center that Braden Sweet chased after, but dropped, sending Mix to third and Memarian to seocnd. Then, Cy Probst hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Mix, to make it 18-1.
The Moo found home plate twice more in the bottom of the sixth. Swails delivered a one-out single ahead of a Nichols walk and a Contacos single. Braden Sweet hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Swails. Next, Tablazon hit a rbi single, making it 20-1, Fremont.
In the top of the eighth, recently inserted first baseman Jarred Heck hit a triple with one out. Two batter later, Trevor Seagraves smacked a rbi single, making it 20-2.
The final tally came in the bottom of the eighth. Contacos and Sweet drew back-to-back walks. Two batters later, Hobbs did the same, to load the bases. Next, pinch-hitter Darius Blasingane delivered a rbi, fielders’s choice, plating Contacos, to make it 21-2.
Moo reliever, Zane Leyden finished up his three-inning appearance to earn the save, by retiring the side, in the top of the ninth.
Luke Hamzah (1-0), made his first appearance for the Moo, this season. The Gilbert, Arizona native, at Midland University, pitched six innings, giving up two hits, one unearned run, walked two, struck out eight, and had one wild pitch. Moo rookie Zane Leyden, a freshman from Firth, Nebraska, at Bellevue University, earned the three-inning save (1), giving up three hits, one run, walked one, struck out six and had one wild pitch.
Oahe starter Nick Blessing (1-2) pitched two innings, giving up nine hits, nine runs, walked two, struck out one, and yielded three home runs and hit one batter. John Patty pitched three innings, giving up two hits, four unearned runs, walked two, struck out two and hit two batters. Collin Quandee pitched three innings, yielding four hits, two earned runs, walked four, had one wild pitch and hit two batters. Eric Lemberg pitched one inning, giving up one run, walked three, and struck one out.
Eight Moo players recorded hits in the game. Christian Hobbs was 3-for-5 with two rbi’s. Tyman Long went 2-for-6 with a three run homer (3) and four rbi’s. Tyler Harrington was 3-for-6. With a single, double and a home run (1), he finished a triple shy of the cycle. and had two rbi’s. Ben Swails was 2-for-3 with a rbi and stole three bases. Blake Tablazon was 2-for-4 with a home run (1).
More Information: With the Wednesday win, all fans that held on to their tickets may redeem them, next Wednesday, for a free general admission ticket to the Moo game versus the Spearfish Sasquatch, on Wednesday, June 14th at 7:05pm. The other two games in the Independence League Baseball Association were rained out Wednesday, so with the Moo victory, Fremont moved into sole possession of first place in the league, one-half game ahead of the Badlands Big Sticks. Tyler Harrington ran his hit streak to eight straight, for the future UAB Blazer.
Up Next: Fremont (11-3) will go for the sweep against Oahe (1-12), Thursday night at 7:05 at Historic Moller Field. Thursday is “Jers-Day, Thursday”. All fans that wear their favorite sports team’s jersey, to the game will receive a general admission ticket for half price.
