Moo takes care of business against Bison

Fremont, Nebraska – Bobby Simmons pitched eight full innings and The Fremont Moo defeated The Bison 14-6, Monday night at Historic Moller Field. Fremont took the first game of the three game series, in The Moo’s final homestand of the regular season.

The Moo began the scoring in the bottom of the first. Against Bison starter Tim Dixon, Fremont’s Josh Blount drew a lead off walk, stole second, then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Two batters later, Cooper Fuchino drew a walk. Then, Carter Sintek reached on a fielder’s choice, which forced out Fuchino, but scored Blount, to make it a 1-0 Fremont lead.

Fremont’s most productive inning of the night was in the bottom of the second. Isaac Bonner led off with a walk. Two batters later, Trey Brooks drew a walk, as well. Then, Josh Blount hit a two-rbi double, scoring Bonner, to make it 2-0. After a Dean Reynolds pop out, Cooper Fuchino drew a walk. Then, Carter Sintek hit a two-rbi single, scoring Brooks and Blount, to make it 4-0. The next batter, Grant Nottleman, hit a single, scoring Fuchino, to put Fremont ahead 5-0.

The lead grew in the bottom of the third. Isaac Bonner reached on a throwing error at third base. Then, Kayden Anderson doubled, scoring Bonner, to make it 6-0. The next batter, Trey Brooks, reached on another throwing error at third, which plated Anderson, and Fremont led 7-0.

The Bison put together a big inning in the fifth, scoring four runs. With one out against Fremont starter Bobby Simmons, The Bison’s Alex Everson tripled. The next batter, Jackson Takahashi, hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Everson, to make it 7-1. Then, Joel Bever singled, Isaiah Brandt was hit by a pitch and Ethan Kang singled, scoring Bever, to make it 7-2. Mason Daniels singled to load the bases before Dayton Francis hit a two-rbi single, plating Brandt and Kang, to make it a 7-4 game.

Fremont responded with four runs of its own in the bottom of the fifth. Kayden Anderson led off with a walk. The Bison went to the bullpen and brought in David Henry to pitch. The next batter, Trey Brooks, doubled. Then, Josh Blount hit a two-rbi single, scoring Anderson and Brooks, to make it 9-4. Cooper Fuchino drew a walk. Then, Carter Sintek grounded out to first, scoring Blount, to make it a 10-4 Fremont lead. Two batters later, Dylan Brandenburg drew a bases loaded walk, to put The Moo ahead 11-4.

In the top of the sixth, The Bison’s Alex Everson singled, with one out, then stole second. Two batters later, Joel Bever hit an rbi single, scoring Everson, to make it 11-5. 

The Moo capped its scoring in the bottom of the seventh. Grant Nottleman led off with a walk. Dylan Brandenburg reached on a fielder’s choice, forcing out Nottleman for the first out. Brandenburg stole second, then Isaac Bonner singled, and an error in left field allowed Brandenburg to score, making it 12-5. Kayden Anderson drew a walk. A wild pitch put runners at second and third. Two batters later, Josh Blount was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Then, Dean Reynolds hit an infield single, scoring Bonner, to make it 13-5. A wild pitch allowed Kayden Anderson to score, giving Fremont a 14-5 advantage.

In the ninth, Fremont brought in Parker Otte to pitch. The first batter, Isaiah Brandt reached on an infield single, and a throwing error advanced him to second. A wild pitch moved Brandt to third. Then, Ethan Kang singled, scoring Brandt, to make it 14-6. Otte recovered by getting Mason Daniels to hit into a 6-4-3 ground out double play. Then, Otte got Dayton Francis to ground out to short, to end the game.

Fremont (28-18, 15-7) scored fourteen runs off ten hits and committed one error. The Bison (2-15, 2-15) had six runs off twelve hits, but committed five errors.

Moo starter Bobby Simmons (4-0) picked up the win. He pitched 8.0 innings, giving up five runs off ten hits, struck out three without a walk and hit four batters. Parker Otte pitched 1.0 inning, giving up one unearned run off one hit and had one wild pitch.

Bison starter Tim Dixon (0-3) took the loss. He pitched 4.0 innings, giving up eight runs off four hits, struck out two, walked eight and had one wild pitch. David Henry pitched 3.0 innings, giving up four earned runs off six hits, struck out two and walked six, plus had three wild pitches. Alec Vincent pitched 1.0 inning and struck out one.

Offensively for Fremont, Josh Blount was 2-for-3 with three rbi’s. Dean Reynolds was 2-for-5 and drove in one. Carter Sintek was 1-for-6, but drove home four runs. Grant Nottleman went 1-for-2 with an rbi. Dylan Brandenburg was 0-for-2, but drove in one run. Kayden Anderson was 1-for-3 with one run batted in.

For The Bison, Isaiah Brandt was 2-for-3. Ethan Kang was 2-for-5 with two rbi’s. Mason Daniels was 2-for-4. Dayton Francis was 2-for-5 and drove in two runs. Alex Everson was 2-for-4. Jackson Takahashi went 0-for-4 with one rbi. Joel Bever was 2-for-4 and drove in one.

The Moo and Bison will play game two of their three game series Tuesday night. First pitch at Historic Moller Field is 7:05 p.m.
