For the week ending September 17, 2023, there were 5.9 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 29% very short, 31% short, 39% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 32% very short, 33% short, 34% adequate, and 1% surplus.


Field Crops Report:
Corn condition rated 11% very poor, 16% poor, 23% fair, 39% good, and 11% excellent. Corn dented was 95%, near 92% for both last year and the five-year average. Mature was 57%, ahead of 50% last year and 46% average. Harvested was 7%, near 5% both last year and average.


Soybean condition rated 11% very poor, 17% poor, 25% fair, 37% good, and 10% excellent. Soybeans dropping leaves was 72%, ahead of 62% last year and 59% average. Harvested was 4%, equal to both last year and average.


Winter wheat planted was 22%, ahead of 16% last year, but near 25% average.


Sorghum condition rated 5% very poor, 8% poor, 26% fair, 31% good, and 30% excellent. Sorghum coloring was 95%, ahead of 90% last year, and near 91% average. Mature was 27%, near 23% last year, and equal to average. Harvested was 2%, near 3% last year, and equal to average.


Dry edible bean condition rated 3% very poor, 6% poor, 28% fair, 52% good, and 11% excellent. Dry edible beans dropping leaves was 57%, behind 69% last year. Harvested was 20%, near 23% last year.


Pasture and Range Report:
Pasture and range conditions rated 12% very poor, 19% poor, 37%
fair, 24% good, and 8% excellent.


KANSAS NASS

For the week ending September 17, 2023, there were 5.5 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 31% very short, 37% short, 31% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 34% very short, 41% short, 25% adequate, and 0% surplus.


Field Crops Report: Winter wheat planted was 8%, behind 13% last year, and near 10% for the five-year average. Emerged was 1%, equal to average. Corn condition rated 16% very poor, 20% poor, 32% fair, 26% good, and 6% excellent. Corn dented was 96%, ahead of 89% last year, and near 92% average. Mature was 76%, ahead of 59% last year and 58% average. Harvested was 27%, near 26% last year, and ahead of 17% average.

Soybean condition rated 20% very poor, 27% poor, 30% fair, 20% good, and 3% excellent. Soybeans dropping leaves was 53%, ahead of 38% last year, and well ahead of 32% average. Harvested was 4%, near 2% last year and 1% average.


Sorghum condition rated 13% very poor, 20% poor, 35% fair, 27% good, and 5% excellent. Sorghum coloring was 80%, ahead of 71% last year, but near 82% average. Mature was 34%, ahead of 19% last year and 22% average. Harvested was 7%, ahead of 2% both last year and average.


Cotton condition rated 4% very poor, 14% poor, 47% fair, 33% good, and 2% excellent. Cotton bolls opening was 81%, well ahead of 52% last year and 38% average.

Sunflowers harvested was 1%.


Pasture and Range Report:
Pasture and range conditions rated 22% very poor, 28% poor, 33%
fair, 16% good, and 1% excellent.
