VERMILLION, S.D. – Iowa State (4-3, 0-0 Big 12) dropped the match to UTEP (6-1, 0-0 CUSA) in straight sets by scores of 17-25, 23-25, 15-25. UTEP hit at .337 compared to ISU’s .087, while Iowa State committed 21 attack errors and the Miners won 3-0.
Maya Duckworth and Nayeli Gonzalez led the Cyclones with seven kills each. Rachel Van Gorp again led the match with 17 digs at 5.67 per set.
SET ONE
UTEP took the early 10-6 lead, but Iowa State battled back to find the lead at 11-10 after a pair of Duckworth kills. The lead returned to the Miners as they continued hitting over .300, going up 20-16 as ISU called a timeout. The Cyclones continued struggling offensively as UTEP took the first 25-17.
SET TWO
Gonzalez went back-to-back with kills to put ISU on the board first. The lead remained with the Cyclones as Pam McCune and Gonzalez teamed up for two straight blocks to go up 11-5. UTEP came back, eventually flipping the lead in its favor at 19-18. A Cyclone block put ISU up 21-20, but another lead change followed as the Miners went on to take the second 25-23.
SET THREE
UTEP built a lead of four at 10-6 as the Miners continued outhitting the Cyclones. UTEP reached 20 points following a Cyclone attack error (20-13), causing Iowa State to call a timeout. UTEP reached match point at 24-15, and took the match on the next point to seal the 3-0 win.

Iowa State next meets host South Dakota tomorrow at 5 p.m. and will close the South Dakota Classic with Montana State Sept. 15 at 10 a.m.
