WACO, Texas – Iowa State (11-17, 2-5 Big 12) dropped the series-opening game to No. 23 Baylor (18-11, 2-8 Big 12) on Thursday night at Getterman Field, 6-0.

Baylor pitcher RyLee Crandall proved to be too much for the Cyclones, as the righty dealt seven scoreless innings to ISU, holding Iowa State to just one hit on the day.

Angelina Allen had the lone hit for the Cyclones, sending a single up the middle in the sixth inning. Both Milaysia Ochoa and Alesia Ranches drew the team’s only walks on the night, as those three were the only Cyclones to reach on the evening.

Aziza Rodriguez (3-6) got the start and was the pitcher of record for the second consecutive game for the Cyclones. Karlie Charles relieved Rodriguez, holding the ranked Bears’ offense to just one run on three hits.

How it Happened
Both Ochoa and Ranches led the game off with walks in the first, giving the Cyclones two early runners on the base path. Back-to-back punchouts from Baylor however stranded the ISU runners.

Baylor threatened in the bottom of the first, putting a runner on first with a single, but a 5-4-3 Cyclone double play stymied the Bear momentum.

Baylor scattered five runs over the next three innings, taking a commanding 5-0 advantage.

The Cyclones were held without a hit until the sixth inning.

The Bears tacked on a sixth and final run in the bottom of the sixth inning as they went on to take the opening game of the series.
