Howells-Dodge Wins Class D1 State Volleyball Championship

LINCOLN – Howells-Dodge claimed its first State Championship in volleyball on Saturday, when the Jaguars defeated Archbishop Bergan in four sets for the Class D1 crown at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

The Bergan Knights won the opening set 25-18.

But it was all Howells-Dodge after that, as the Jaguars won the next three sets 25-14, 26-24 and 25-21.

Statistically, Ellie Baumert recorded a triple-double for the Jaguars, racking up 23 kills, 21 set assists and 18 digs.

Grace Baumert had a double-double of 23 kills and 12 digs. Blair Fiala handed out 35 set assists and had 12 digs, Natalie Pieper recorded 15 digs and Jade Bayer had 13 digs.

Kaitlyn Mlnarik led Bergan with 17 kills and 11 digs.

Howells-Dodge ends the season at 31-3 overall, and as the Class D1 State Champions.
