NORFOLK, Neb. – A Northeast Community College faculty member will give a brief history of the American suburban landscape during a presentation next week.
Dr. Trentee Bush, horticulture instructor, will speak during the college’s Hawk Talks lectures series on Thur., March 10, at 7 p.m., in Union 73 on the Northeast campus in Norfolk. The talk is free and open to the public.
During her presentation, Bush will discuss ways in which people have interacted with their local landscapes throughout history and the resulting suburban landscapes which surround the modern single-family home.
“As society has developed, changes in religion, recreation, education, and economics have all played a role in the evolution of how we interact with these suburban landscapes,” she said. “In a brief exploration from prehistory up to the twenty-first century, this evolution of American suburbia will be revealed.”
Bush taught horticulture, math, and a variety of other courses at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis from 2010 to 2019 before transitioning to Northeast Community College to teach horticulture and agriculture courses.
In 2021, she was one of 40 individuals to be selected to participate in the Nebraska LEAD (Leadership Education/Action Development) program – a yearlong initiative that develops agricultural leaders from Nebraska’s future generations.
