BISMARCK, N.D. — Senior Savannah Gunn (Forney, Texas) and junior Katie Cunningham helped the Bellevue University softball program sweep the weekly North Star Athletic Association honors for their performances in the Bruins’ four-game conference road sweep at Waldorf University last weekend.
It marked the second time this season and the third time in her BU career that Gunn has been named the NSAA Pitcher of the Week. Cunningham earned her second NSAA Player of the Week nod. She has been named the NSAA Pitcher of the Week four times this season.
Gunn, who appeared in three games, went 2-0 on the week, recording a 1.08 ERA, allowing just two earned runs in 13 innings pitched while striking out nine batters. She allowed four hits with four strikeouts in BU’s 6-1 win over the Warriors in the second game of the series.
Gunn appeared in relief in a pair of games on Sunday. She allowed just one hit with two strikeouts in the final two innings of the Bruins’ 13-4 victory in the opener. Gunn got the win in the nightcap, scattering three hits with three K’s in Bellevue’s 9-6 win in the series finale.
In the latest conference statistics, Gunn ranks third with a 3.07 ERA and eight wins. She is seventh with 53 strikeouts.
Cunningham went 10-for-17 on the week with eight RBIs, a double, and a home run. She recorded a .824 slugging percentage and also went 2-0 in the circle. In Sunday’s doubleheader, Cunningham got the win in the opener and went 7-for-10 at the plate with seven RBIs, a double, and a home run.
Cunningham currently ranks fourth in the NSAA with 27 RBIs and four home runs.
Bellevue (25-14, 14-2 NSAA) will travel to Olathe, Kan. on Wed., April 17, for a 1 p.m. non-conference doubleheader at MidAmerica Nazarene University.
