Governor Pillen has proclaimed June as dairy month in Nebraska.

Dairy farmers celebrated accordingly with a trip to the governor’s mansion to share some ice cream and visit with staff at the capital on June 12th. An elected board of representatives and dairy checkoff members also joined in on the event accompanied by “Ice Cream” the dairy calf.

Kris Bousquet, executive director of the Nebraska Dairy Association, says that the purpose of dairy month is to “thank our dairy farmers for all the hard work they go through to create an amazing product… this month is about them.”

The USDA reports that Nebraska dairy farms are home to over 57,000 dairy cattle who produce 1.3 billion pounds of milk a year.
