Dawson Co traffic stop leads to seizure and arrests

Nebraska State Patrol seized Cocaine and made two arrests in a Dawson County traffic stop last week. Shortly before 11:00am Friday August 23, 2024, a trooper observed a vehicle following another one too close on Interstate 80 about three miles east of the Gothenburg interchange. The trooper stopped a Honda Accord traveling eastbound with Dawson County license plates.

During the course of the traffic stop, the trooper became suspicious and State Patrol Service Dog Frank was deployed around the vehicle. Service Dog Frank alerted to the odor of drugs emitting from the vehicle. It led to a probable cause search of the vehicle and the seizure of 2.4 pounds of a wrapped package in a suitcase in the trunk, which field tested positive for Cocaine.

The two occupants of the vehicle were arrested and transported to Dawson County Jail. Both men were arraigned in Dawson County Court Monday afternoon. The driver, 24-year-old Maynor Zecena-Guidel of Mesa, AZ was charged with Possession of 140 grams of Cocaine or more intended for Distribution, Conspiracy to Possess 140 grams of Cocaine or more with Intent to Distribute and Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp.

His passenger, 33-year-old Jorge Martinez of Lexington, was also charged with Possession of 140 grams of Cocaine or more intended for Distribution, Conspiracy to Possess 140 grams of Cocaine or more with Intent to Distribute and Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp. In addition, Martinez was also charged with being a Habitual Criminal.

Dawson County Judge Jeffrey Wightman set both men’s bond at $500,000 however they can be released if 10% of that amount is posted.

Their next court hearings were set in Dawson County Court for September 5, 2024 at 11:00am.
